Hi, my name is Kathy Odiorne and I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and am the owner of Chicory Lane Photography LLC. Those who know me best know my passion is fine art photography, and I specialize in nature, scenics and landscapes, and photographing flowers I'd like to take this opportunity to guide you "Down Chicory Lane" and share what is happening in my life and my photography. I first became interested in photography eleven years ago when I purchased my first (film) SLR camera and my husband and I traveled up and down the coasts of Michigan. We've been so blessed with our beautiful Great Lakes and lighthouses and we spent several days taking the opportunity to photograph them. It was during that time that my eyes were opened and a passion was born. I've been involved in several on line photography forums and have enjoyed a variety of educational experiences through seminars, webinars, and also classes at Grand Rapids Community College under the instruction of photographer Jonathan Russell. Since that time, I've had opportunity to have my fine art displayed in several local gallery exhibits. I've also studied under Master Photographer Michael Timmons and so appreciate the role he and his wife Tina have had in pointing me in the right direction with print competition through Professional Photographers of America (PPA). What a ride! I am SO enjoying the journey and the many wonderful people I've met so far along the way.
Okay.... 'nuff about me.... This winter has been most interesting here in Michigan. Very little snow, and I can still see grass! So winter photo ops have been limited. But it is also the season for shooting flowers indoors, and our local Meijers has had a few "mini" flowers in tiny pots. Last week, I brought home a mini iris, better known as "Harmony" iris, or Iris Reticulata. This little gem produces flowers that are barely larger than my thumb, but are an absolute joy to photograph, and I spent the better part of an afternoon playing. I have a corner of my dining room that is dedicated to photographing flowers and I enjoy some wonderful side lighting through the glass sliding door. So when the winter doldrums hit, there is always the opportunity to bring a little sunshine into my world with flowers. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed photographing them. Later today... a photo session with a mini daffodil.
